Teeth whitening in Islington
22 dental practices in Islington publish what they charge for teeth whitening. Half of them ask between £303 and £400 for a course, and the middle price is £382 — about the same as the £385 pooled median across the 18 boroughs where we hold teeth whitening prices. The figures below are those practices' own published fees, read in August 2026, each one linked to the practice and its CQC registration. They are not quotes: what you pay depends on what the examination finds. Whitening is cosmetic, so the NHS does not cover it. By law only a GDC-registered dental professional may whiten teeth — a salon or beauty clinic offering it is committing an offence.
| Option | Cost (per course) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Private — lower | £307 | 25th percentile of published prices |
| Private — typical | £385 | Median across 23 Islington practices |
| Private — upper | £420 | 75th percentile |
| NHS | Not covered | Cosmetic — private only |
How this is worked out. Every figure comes from a price list the practice publishes itself. We drop “from” prices, which describe the cheapest possible case rather than a price, and variants narrower than the treatment named. 22 Islington practices remain. The middle price across all 18 boroughs we cover is £385. How we read a fee guide.
- The Islington median (£382) sits within 3% of the pooled median across the 18 boroughs with published teeth whitening data on this site (£390, n=590).
- That makes Islington the 11th most expensive of those 18 boroughs for this treatment.
- The middle half of prices runs £303–£400 (a £97 range), a moderate spread. The full range is £99–£695.
- 22 of the 51 CQC-registered practices in Islington publish a price for this treatment (43%); the figures describe those 22, not the whole borough.
- All figures are per course, taken from each practice's own fee guide, so they can be compared like for like.

Why do some Islington practices list under half the median?
2 of 22 published prices are below £191: Smileright (£99), Essex Road Dentalshine Practice (£100). A figure this far below the borough median is often a narrower product than the rest of the table (a single session, a top-up, or an introductory offer) — check what the practice's fee guide includes before comparing.
Every statement above is computed from the 22 published prices in the table below; it changes when the data changes.

22 Islington practices publish this fee. Each figure is the practice's own published price, read August 2026; narrower variants (“from” prices, child or temporary work) are excluded. Sorted lowest first.
A low figure is a real published fee, not a quote — complexity can change the price. Always confirm. How we verify
Who may legally do it
Tooth whitening is the practice of dentistry: the High Court confirmed this in GDC v Jamous in 2013. It may only be carried out by a GDC-registered dentist, or by a hygienist, therapist or clinical dental technician working to a dentist’s prescription. A beauty salon or mobile whitening bar offering it is breaking the law, whatever product it uses. Check the clinician on the free GDC register before booking.
What the price should include
Examination and suitability assessment, a scale and polish beforehand, impressions or a scan, custom-made trays, the gel itself, and review appointments. The difference between a cheap quote and an expensive one is usually which of these are bundled and which appear later. Ask for the total in writing, itemised.
What the evidence shows
A 2024 systematic review found in-office, at-home and combined whitening all produce real colour change, with at-home holding its result longest. High-concentration in-office peroxide was linked to colour returning sooner — within six months — than a completed home course, and combining both offered no additional benefit while possibly increasing sensitivity.
